After the meeting the BAC received many additional suggestions from arbitrators, who all expressed willingness to participate in donation. They highly appraised the donation activities and the idea to establish a long-term mechanism at the BAC.
Mr. Li Hongji, a BAC arbitrator, was so moved by the effort, that he donated all the compensation he has received since becoming a BAC arbitrator to the disaster-affected areas! After seeing the strong will and courage of the earthquake victims, Mr. Li knew that he must do all he could to help.
Wang Jialu, another BAC arbitrator, expressed that arbitration commissions in the disaster areas are in the midst of an emergency, and need help from outside.? Care and concern shown from colleagues in the arbitration industry is especially important because we can better empathize with the situations at these commissions, and know how to help them best. As a colleague in the industry, he has the responsibility and the obligation to send his warmth and best wishes to fellows in the disaster areas, and if possible, he also suggested the BAC can offer help in terms of training, etc.
Mr. Tao Jingzhou, a French arbitrator at BAC, believed the fast speed and high enthusiasm of the donation reflected the BAC’s organization and team spirit. He highly praised the operation to use part of the donation to help the arbitration commissions in the disaster areas and use the other part to recover and reconstruct the primary schools in those areas, and believed the arrangement of the BAC was very practical and considerate.
Ms. Zhang Lixia, also a BAC arbitrator, expressed that she is very grateful for the donation organized by the BAC, which offered an opportunity for all arbitrators to express their love. Meanwhile, she also highly praised the public and transparent operation mode for donors when the BAC was determining the applications of the donation.
After the meeting, the BAC also received a letter from Mr. Qiao Gangliang, a USA arbitrator at the BAC, which said, “Thanks very much for the report. We really appreciate BAC's leadership in getting us organized to show our support and love to our fellow arbitrators, the victims and their loved ones in the earthquake-stricken area. I fully support the motion that some of the donation proceeds will be used to build schools. I think that to the extent possible, we should put a condition precedent to whoever accepts the donation, and that is, we should receive an audit report of some kind on the construction projects, e.g., materials used, workmanship, quality certificate, etc. so as to exert some influence to ensure construction quality of the schools.”
Meanwhile, the BAC received a letter of acknowledgement from Mianyang Arbitration Commission. In the letter, Mianyang Arbitration Commission said “The disaster is ruthless, but people have love. After the disaster, your commission sent a proposal for donation in the shortest time, and as the first, sent your letter of care to us with the donation for RMB 150,000 Yuan. This expression of love and support from our friends at the BAC has really helped us in a great time of need. We hereby would like to express our deep appreciation”, and Mianyang Arbitration Commission also further expressed their determination that the arbitrators in the disaster-affected would work with the people there together to conquer and get through all the difficulties to rebuild their homes.
As of June 4th, 2008, the BAC has raised RMB 1,094,729.66 Yuan and USD 200 in total for the charity donation for relief and recovery works. This includes donations by the BAC Director Meeting for RMB 500,000 Yuan, the Employee Representative Conference of the BAC Office for RMB
