BAC on invitation at the 4th Greater China Arbitration Forum

On September 15th & 16th, 2011 the 4th Greater China Arbitration Forum (GCAF) was held at the World Trade Centre Macau. Nearly one hundred members of the arbitration communities of China’s mainland, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan were present at the conference. From the BAC, Secretary General Wang Hongsong and director Chen Fuyong were invited to attend the forum, and each made a special speech.

The topics of discussion for this Forum included: arbitration and mediation promotion practice and experience; commercial arbitration mechanisms of greater China; the judiciary’s role of the preservation of rights in the context of arbitration; the law and practice of the enforcement of arbitral awards; the current state of development and trends in mediation in greater China; mediation practice and experience; and others At the special discussion session on “Promotion of arbitration and mediation: practice and experience”, Secretary General Wang Hongsong delivered the headlining speech on “the advantages and problems of arbitration agencies establishing diversified dispute settlement mechanisms”. Taking the practical experience of the BAC in promoting mediation and construction dispute evaluation, Secretary General Wang closely analyzed the benefits and challenges that the development of diverse dispute settlement systems brings to arbitration organizations. Secretary General Wang Hongsong also. convened, presided over, and made a speech at the discussion themed “The Law and Practice of the Enforcement of Arbitral Awards.” Director Chen Fuyong gave the headlining speech entitled “The Present Situation and Trends in the Development of Mainland Mediation” at the discussion themed “The Development and Trends of Mediation in Greater China.”

According to reports, the GCAF was initiated jointly by some arbitration agencies from China's mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau in 2005 with the aim of strengthening cooperation and exchange among the arbitration agencies of the region, enhancing arbitration in greater China, and promoting arbitration in general. This Forum is held every two years, and the next forum will be held in Beijing in 2013. The BAC is a founding member of the GCAF.

All disputes arising from or in connection with this contract shall be submitted to Beijing Arbitration Commission / Beijing International Arbitration Center for arbitration in accordance with its rules of arbitration. The arbitral award is final and binding upon both parties.
