After more than thirty years of reform and opening up, China has become the world’s second largest economy. In the process of accomplishing this achievement, there have been an ever-increasing number of Chinese State-owned and private enterprises going abroad to invest. When going abroad, these enterprises have been encountering a litany of legal problems and challenges that are unlike anything they have seen before. One notable country that has captured the curiosity of Chinese enterprises in this regard is the United States. In order to help these enterprises gain a deeper understanding of the legal problems that may arise while investing in the United States, the Beijing Arbitration Commission, Baker Hostetler and Broad & Bright are coming together to present a seminar on this pertinent issue.

As this seminar will occur shortly after the results of the United States presidential election have been released, Dr. Feldman will also provide analysis on the impact that the newly elected presidential administration will likely have on Chinese investment in the United States. In addition, Dr. Feldman has invited Mr. David Murphy to present on the United States’ policies regarding US-bound investments made by Chinese enterprises.
Presenter and Organizer Profiles:
Dr. Elliot J. Feldman (Presenter) is Senior Partner and the National Leader of the International Trade Practice of Baker Hostetler, an 850-lawyer firm with eleven offices across the United States. Dr. Feldman represents foreign governments (including MOFCOM and the Government of Canada), international organizations (such as the International Boundary Commission), major corporations, and trade associations in treaty negotiations and disputes involving international trade, borders, and foreign investments. He writes often on China-U.S. trade relations (at www.chinaustradelawblog.com), and has appeared frequently in the media (including CNN, Bloomberg, Fox, MSNBC, NPR, Radio-Canada) as an expert on China and on Free Trade Agreements. Dr. Feldman holds a Ph.d. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his law degree from Harvard University. He has taught at leading American universities, and is the author of eight books, including most recently Mergers & Acquisitions in the United States: A Practical Guide for Non-U.S. Buyers.

Broad & Bright translates Baker Hostetler’s “Mergers & Acquisition in the United States: A Practical Guide for Non- U.S. Buyers”
On October 10, 2011 the Chinese version of Mergers & Acquisition in the United States: A Practical Guide for Non- U.S. Buyers, which was translated by 23 lawyers from Broad & Bright, was released for sale. The translation work was a vast project that spanned over eight months and involved the diligent work of Broad & Bright partners, associates, and other team members.
The original English text was written by Baker Hostetler’s partners and associates. One of the writers is Michael G. Oxley, the chief drafter of Sarbanes-Oxley. Moreover, this book can be considered a complete, authoritative source regarding American Mergers and Acquisitions law for both legal scholars and practicing lawyers.
