On the afternoon of September 12, 2012, a symposium on “the Needs of and Measures for Dispute Resolution of Internet Enterprises” which was jointly sponsored by the Beijing Arbitration Commission (BAC) and the Mediation Center of the Internet Society of China was successfully held at BAC. The Attendees of the symposium included more than twenty representatives of renowned Internet enterprises, and Lin Zhiwei, General Secretary of BAC as well as Guo Yuzhong, director of the Mediation Center of the Internet Society of China. The symposium was presided over by Jiang Qiuju, deputy director of the Second Business Department of BAC.
At the meeting, Director Jiang presented to the attendees the founding, business and development of BAC and its mediation center; Senior secretary of BAC Lv Xin made a speech with the topic of “An Brief Analysis on the Practice of Internet Dispute Resolution” in which he analyzed the common disputes of the Internet enterprises from the aspects of the feasibility of arbitration, case proportion, major problems and typical disputes, etc.; he also presented the advantages and characteristics of resolving Internet disputes through arbitration. The honored guest Song Lianbin, a professor at the School of International Law of China University of Political Science and Law and also an arbitrator of BAC made a speech on the topic of “the Status quo and Prospect of Online Arbitration” in which he gave a profound presentation yet in very simple language on the definition and the outline of the development of online arbitration and the business of online arbitration in China and advanced countries. He also forecasted its prospect.

Representatives of Internet enterprises, in light of the situations of their own enterprises, had deep discussions on the resolution of various typical disputes of the enterprises, and being focused on the characteristics of different disputes and resolution models, raised questions and offered their own suggestions. They communicated with the staff members of BAC on the theories and practices concerning the handling of Internet involved cases and were impressed with the professionalism, efficiency, flexibility and justice of arbitration and mediation which are the substitutional measures of dispute resolution. They said that they would like to try more measures of arbitration and mediation to resolve disputes in the future.
At the end of the meeting, General Secretary Lin Zhiwei made a summary speech in which he extended his ardent support for the symposium, hoping that such kind of activities could enhance the communication and mutual understanding between BAC and Internet enterprises, bring about research results that could direct adjudication, help promote the mechanism and ideas of diversified dispute resolution so as to improve the harmonious and orderly development of the internet industry.
