On October 10, 2012, leading by its vice chairman Nikolaus Pitkowitz and general secretary Manfred Heider, a delegation of six representatives of the Vienna International Arbitration Centre visited the Beijing Arbitration Commission (BAC). Deputy director Wang Hongsong warmly welcomed the visitors and both parties had friendly and profound discussions on the issues of arbitration and management of arbitration institutions.

During the meeting, Nikolaus Pitkowit and Manfred Heider extended their thanks for the warm reception of BAC. Manfred Heider introduced briefly the evolution and business development of Vienna International Arbitral Centre, and deputy director Wang Hongsong presented to the visitors several issues in respect of the case acceptance and hearing, dispute amounts, international cases, arbitration rules and institutional improvement of BAC for the last few years. She also took questions concerning the management of arbitrational procedures, the independence of arbitration institutions, the appointment and training of arbitrators, and analyzed how the newly amended Civil Procedure law would improve China’s arbitration. She gave her own forecast about it at the end of her speech.
Efforts made by BAC and its experience in maintaining its independence and promoting its professionalism were admired by the visitors. They were impressed with the efficiency of arbitration procedures of BAC and its advanced facilities, hoping to strengthen cooperation and communication with BAC in the future. At the end of the meeting, both parties exchanged gifts and took a group photo to mark the occasion.

Vienna International Arbitral Centre, which was established in 1975 as one of the internationally known arbitration authorities receiving international arbitration cases, is mainly committed to resolution on commercial affairs in Central Europe and Eastern Europe.
