Publish time: Mon Nov 25 00:00:00 CST 2013

On November 20, 2013, a group of more than 40 students from China Foreign Affairs University (CFAU) and Renmin University of China visited BAC. Secretaries CHEN Xi and WANG Ze received the visiting students.

As one of the series of the “Introduction to Various Professions” program organized by the CFAU Social Practice Center, this visit attracted more than 30 CFAU students. This was the first time that BAC received a student delegation from CFAU, as well as the first time that the CFAU Social Practice Center added BAC in its “Introduction to Various Professions” program. The other visiting students from Renmin University of China were, as before, organized by the university’s Law Association. This social practice activity allowed the students to acquire a deeper understanding of the development of different fields and professions and thus be prepared on their way into society.

After screening a BAC video titled “Building Credibility”, Secretary CHEN Xi gave the visiting students a detailed presentation of BAC and arbitration in China. Since China’s implementation of the Arbitration Law in 1995, rapid and tremendous progress has been made in this field in terms of case number and disputed amount. Take BAC for example, the commission progressed from 7 cases accepted with a total disputed amount of RMB 44 million in 1995 to 1,473 cases accepted in 2012 with a total disputed amount over RMB 6 billion. By November 2013, the disputed amount from all cases accepted so far within the year has exceeded RMB 10 billion, and by October 31, BAC had accepted a cumulative number of 21,660 cases with a total disputed amount of nearly RMB 103.6 billion. The development of BAC epitomizes the development of arbitration system in China. In the context of such rapid development, the influence of BAC has extended from Beijing to the whole country and even other parts of the world. In 2012, 46% of the cases accepted by BAC had one or more parties who came from other parts all over the country except Tibet. By 2012, BAC had accepted a cumulative number of nearly 500 international commercial arbitration cases, 224 cases since 2008. After presenting these achievements made by BAC over the years, Secretary CHEN Xi led the students to analyze and summarize the reasons that led to BAC’s rapid development and in the process conducted extensive interactions and exchanges with the students.

Afterwards, the students were shown around the BAC facilities including the office area, the arbitration rooms and library and then took group photos. Impressed, they said they learned a lot from this visit and would like to have opportunities to intern or work at BAC. BAC has always put great emphasis on exchange and cooperation with universities, and every year receives visits of domestic and foreign students from several universities including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, China University of Political Science and Law and CFAU. BAC also has been funding theNew Academic Paper Contest of China University of Political Science and Law and acts as student internship base for universities such as Beihang University, making its contributions to the cultivation of Chinese legal talents.
