AAA President and Vice President Visited BAC

On Sep 27 2016, Ms. India Johnson, President and CEO of the American Arbitration Association (the “AAA”) and Mr. Michael D. Lee, Vice President of the AAA, visited the Beijing Arbitration Commission / the Beijing International Arbitration Center (the “BAC”).


The BAC Deputy Secretary General Dr. Chen Fuyong welcomed Ms. Johnson and Mr. Lee, and presented a brief introduction about the BAC’s development history, status quo and the proactive endeavor in its internationalization, as well as the overseas launch events of the Commercial Dispute Resolution in China: An Annual Review and Preview (2016) organized by the BAC. In addition, Dr. Chen also shared the discussion on the preparation of an instrument on enforcement of international commercial settlement agreements resulting from conciliation during the 65th session of Working Group II (Dispute Settlement) of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law. The host and the guest then had an in-depth exchange on specific issues such as the internal structure of arbitration institutions, the recruitment of arbitrators, the arbitrator’s fees, the definition of “international” in international commercial arbitration, the enforcement of arbitral awards, the application of diversified dispute resolution methods, and shared their successful experience with each other.


Ms. Johnson said that the AAA has also been conducting empirical research on arbitration related figures, and the empirical research of the BAC was in conformity with the international development trend and thus was helpful to meet the requirement of arbitration users, which truly made sense. The AAA looks forward to more and deeper exchange and cooperation with the BAC within the sector of diversified dispute resolution. Thereafter, Dr. Chen showed Ms. Johnson and Mr. Lee around the BAC’s office, including the case filing room, library, hearing rooms and conference halls. Ms. Johnson and Mr. Lee spoke highly of the superior equipment and the professional and thoughtful service of the BAC.

All disputes arising from or in connection with this contract shall be submitted to Beijing Arbitration Commission / Beijing International Arbitration Center for arbitration in accordance with its rules of arbitration. The arbitral award is final and binding upon both parties.
