The 17th Annual Meeting and Conference of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association (hereinafter as IPBA) was held in the China World Hotel, Beijing, China, from April 20 to 23, 2007. Madam Wang was invited to deliver a speech on ethical issues in arbitration on April 23, in the session of Dispute Resolution and Arbitration Committee, whose topic was ‘Ethical Factors in Arbitration and Litigation in Asia’.
Madam Wang firstly outlined the functions of arbitration institutions concerning ethical issues in arbitration. She took Beijing Arbitration Commission (hereinafter as BAC) for example, introduced the provisions of BAC, such as the list of conflicts of interests for disclosure and the inquiry system to carry out the disclosure. Madam Wang emphasized that there were no in-house arbitrators in BAC. Bearing ‘To delay justice, is injustice’ in mind, BAC places much attention to efficiency as well as impartibility. She also gave a brief introduction of consequences of breaching ethical or professional rules and the disciplinary actions already taken by BAC in the past three terms.
The participants were attracted by Madam Wang’s speech, some of whom paid a visit to BAC after the meeting.
