Beijing Arbitration Commission

September 22, 2006, students from the LL.M Program in Chinese Law at Tsinghua University, accompanied by some students and teachers of school of law in Tsinghua University, visited the Beijing Arbitration Commission (briefly the BAC).

 

This LL.M. Program in Chinese Law at Tsinghua University is the first formal legal educational program ever offered in China for foreign law students and professionals.

 

Madam Wang Hongsong, the Secretary-General of the BAC, gave a warm welcome to the visitors. After showing the introductory video of the BAC, Madam Wang addressed them on the subject of “Arbitration in China: Features and Recent Developments”, in which she reviewed the 10 years’ development of arbitration in China, illustrated the newly-issued judiciary interpretation, and introduced arbitration practice in recent years. There were four parts in the speech: how to draft a valid arbitration agreement, enforcement and judicial review of arbitral award in China, recent development of arbitration in China and introduction of the BAC.

After that, some students exchanged ideas with Madam Wang on some interesting points, such as the features and advantages of arbitration compared with litigation, the process of the arbitration in the BAC, the method of selecting the arbitrators, training program for arbitrators provided by the BAC, the number of cases reversed by court, and the comparison between the BAC and the CIETAC. The students were all impressed by the continuing development of the BAC and that of arbitration in China.

In addition, Madam Wang showed visitors around the offices of the BAC. The modern facilities and comfortable working environment drew their attention.
