On September 8 2021, the International Investment Arbitration Training Program organized by the Beijing Arbitration Commission / Beijing International Arbitration Center (the “BAC”) jointly with the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (the “ICSID”) and the Permanent Forum of China Construction Law (the “PFCCL”) was officially launched. More then 200 audiences participated in the training that was held online and offline simultaneously.

The opening ceremony was moderated by Mr. Sun Wei, Arbitrator of the BAC, Partner of Zhong Lun Law Firm and Secretary General of the PFCCL. Dr. Chen Fuyong, Deputy Secretary General of the BAC, delivered welcome speech.

In his speech, Dr. Chen said that the BAC was pleased to organize the courses of the International Investment Arbitration Training Program jointly with the ICSID and the PFCCL, and congratulated the ICSID on its achievements harvested from the revision of its rules. He said that in light of the ever-increasing demand for international investment arbitration, international arbitration institutions such as the ICSID has kept making reforms and innovations, and improving their arbitration services. The BAC as a leading Chinese arbitration institution with certain influence worldwide, released the BAC International Investment Arbitration Rules in 2019 as Chinese solution for the said reform of international investment arbitration. Dr. Chen hoped that the BAC could work closely with its partners based on its platform to cultivate new talents for international investment arbitration.

The training program consists of four sessions. The first session was lectured by Ms. Meg Kinnear, Secretary General of the ICSID. She presented a detailed introduction of the origin of investor-state dispute resolution, the general information of the ICSID and how to initiate arbitration at the ICSID. The lecture was well received by the audiences. Thereafter, Ms. Meg Kinnear had Q&A interactions with the audiences.
